My hand dyed braid and big spring batt of Rambouillet and Targhee wool.
Can you say: SPROING!!!!
Both of these fibers really like to bloom, so even a finely spun yarn will poof up. I’m aiming for a fingering weight so will have to spin close to a lace weight.
I plan keeping the colors separate. What will I knit? Maybe a light weight shawl with stripes and lace?
Hand dyed wool getting ready to jump on the drumcarder…
yummy fibers in yummy colors
Just a teaser of some of the cool colors and fibers that will be in my batts for Okfiberfest. This bunch of hand dyed wool fibers includes 19.5 micron Merino, Masham, Targhee, overdyed mixed color BFL, Superwash Merino and nylon, Cheviot, 50/50 Merino/Tencel, and Polwarth.
This is like having a new box of crayons and I can’t wait to make the batts!
I needed some new roving colors for batt making and here they are! I used Dharma Trading brand acid dyes with citric acid. The fiber bases are Cheviot and CorrieX.
that drain screen: a must have for working with fiber in the kitchen!
At the last minute I threw in some commercial yarn that I had previously dyed light greens as a base. I put them in cakes and let the dye do its thing.
I love the way the colors broke, don’t you? Stay tuned for projects I make with these yarns.
